1. Travel: If you want to save money and avoid hassle, go with a professional local travel agency—it can help you avoid a lot of middleman fees. That’s one of the reasons why our per-person cost for the 6-day trip came in at less than 2,000.

2. Admission Tickets: All scenic spots in Northeast China require advance reservations under a real-name system. Do not attempt to visit without having booked your tickets in advance. Asking a local to purchase tickets on your behalf can save you a significant amount of money, since scenic spots offer substantial discounts to locals.

On this trip to Northeast China, we found a self-guided tour coordinator named Huimin through a classmate’s recommendation. We didn’t have to worry about a thing the whole time—it was a total breeze, and we had a blast.

💢 Itinerary + Attractions

The vast northern region is a world-renowned tourist destination. We recommend planning your itinerary in advance. Here is our previous itinerary for your reference.

DAY 1: Arrive in Changchun from Chengdu. Hui Min arranged for us to be picked up, checked into the hotel, and headed to the You Shan Cultural Tourism Town (to sample local specialties).

DAY 2: Changchun – Yanji Folk Customs Park – West Market – Erdao Baihe Town, a tourist destination renowned for its “sacred mountains, holy waters, wondrous forests, and divine fruits.”

DAY 3: Changbai Mountain Scenic Area – Hundred Flowers Valley – Dunhua; visit [Changbai Mountain Heavenly Lake], China’s highest and largest alpine lake.

DAY 4: Jingbo Lake – Hengdaohezi – Birch Forest. Admire the [Diaoshuilou Waterfall], one of China’s three most famous waterfalls; stroll along the tree-lined paths of Jingbo Lake; and visit the bottomless [Heishitan Scenic Spot] to experience the tranquility of this area.

DAY 5: Harbin – St. Sophia Cathedral – Central Street – China-Eastern Railway Bridge – Flood Control Memorial Tower. Sample Russian chocolate and experience the exotic atmosphere. Visit the [Impressions of the North Tourist Service Center], where you can select small gifts for family and friends to take home.

DAY 6: Harbin – Airport Transfer. Full day of free time. You may visit [Volga Manor] on your own, and you will be transferred to the airport according to your return flight schedule.

About Accommodations

For this trip, the hotels Huimin arranged for us were all fantastic—the settings were wonderful, especially the ones in Northeast China, which were absolutely amazing. It turned out that choosing Huimin to handle the arrangements was the right decision—thumbs up, thumbs up, thumbs up!

The rooms were very comfortable, conveniently located, yet not noisy at all—a quiet place to stay, perfect for unwinding. We’ll just have to savor every moment. Without further ado, here are some photos.

About the Food

There’s an endless variety of delicious food in Northeast China. Don’t think for a moment that the meals Huimin arranged were simple or lacking in character. On the contrary, she went out of her way to treat us to a “Wild Mountain Delicacies Banquet,” “Cast-Iron Pot Stew,” and a “Jingpo Lake Fish Feast,” among other things, and took us to try many authentic local specialties.

✅ Recommended Dishes: Mountain Delicacies Banquet, Korean-style cuisine, Jingbo Lake Fish Banquet, Northeast China’s “Eight Great Dishes,” and Cast-Iron Pot Stew—don’t start drooling just yet~~ There are so many more culinary delights; if I were to describe them all in detail, it would probably take three days and three nights. For the specifics, I highly recommend reaching out to Huimin—having a local guide will ensure you experience the most authentic local cuisine!

I really loved this trip. No rushing from one sight to the next—just taking it easy and exploring at my own pace. No sales pitches, no shopping—I felt completely satisfied. This is exactly how a trip should be.
