The local security situation was good, and combined with a well-planned itinerary, I never felt worried throughout the entire trip.

Second, the management was very well-organized. There was no forced shopping, the schedule was transparent, and all hotels were booked in advance so we could check in immediately upon arrival; the dining options were clean and hygienic with plenty of variety, and even my picky eaters in the family were able to enjoy the food.

Third, the pace was very comfortable. It wasn’t a rushed, “herding ducks” kind of itinerary; we had ample time at each location to explore and take photos at our own pace, while also experiencing the local culture—it struck a perfect balance between activity and relaxation.

Here are some practical tips for those planning to go: UV rays are very strong in Xinjiang and the weather is dry, so be sure to bring sunscreen, lip balm, and moisturizers; some boardwalks and lakeside grassy areas can be slippery, so wear comfortable, non-slip shoes; mobile payments are widely used in most parts of China, so I recommend setting that up in advance, while also keeping some cash on hand just in case.
